Celebrating Bhikkhuni Arindama’s ordination

In Vietnam, for the UN International Day of Vesak in Ho Chi Minh City from May 5 to 8, Venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi gave the opening speech on May 6. He suggested six pillars of a social order that embodies the ideal of human dignity. Following his usual commitment, courage, and support for the revival of the Bhikkhuni Sangha, he asked all those present:
“We must ensure gender equality at all levels of society, so that women can fully develop their potential. In relation to the Buddhist monastic order, monastic leaders must fully recognize the Bhikkhuni Sangha and take steps to authorize the ordination of bhikkhunis in their respective lineages. The Vinaya provides means to legitimize the ordination of bhikkhunis, and with an open and flexible mindset, we can adopt them.”
What a privilege it is that we have been able to participate in Spain in this vision of Bhikkhu Bodhi, thereby supporting the vision that the Buddha himself had 2600 years ago, helping to establish the four assemblies that include Bhikkhus, Bhikkhunis, laymen, and laywomen.
On June 25 , among almond and olive trees, the door of the Bhikkhuni Sangha was opened to Spanish-speaking women with the ordination of Bhikkhuni Arindama, which is a cause for rejoicing and joy. We wanted to celebrate this in an event on Saturday, September 27. It is organized by Sakyadhita leading it our dear Montse Castella and will feature the participation of Venerable Lama Tsondru, Bhikkhuni Arindama, and Silvia Palau. Bhante Rahula and Venerable Dhammadipa will accompany us with a video, and in person, the warm presence of Dr. Gabriele R. Helmer.
The event will begin at 5 p.m. at the Casa d’Espiritualitat in Barcelona and will also be broadcast live online. We wanted to join hands among different Buddhist traditions and people from different countries. A song to unity, harmony, and peace.
To participate, you can join through Zoom , and for more information, you can visit the Sakyadhita website , as well as the Buddhistdoor en Español website .
May each of us, from our own place, help keep the wheel of the Dhamma turning. For the benefit of many. 🙏
